We’ve all sort of grown accustomed to the football-themed madness that has lent itself so well to the popularity of Rocket League. However, fans have just been chucked a curve ball in the form of a brand-new basketball-themed event. Hurry up and check it out though – the event only runs until October 18th

While everyone else is going Halloween crazy, Rocket league has launched ‘The Block,’ a limited-time basketball-themed event. Instead of aiming for the small goals for which Rocket League has become known, the platform is now home to larger circular hoops on either side of a new arena.

In addition to the new game configuration and arena, Rocket League is also introducing new challenges and rewards to experience. Included in the new rewards are a brand new animated double dribble topper and a new game-time player anthem. This event won’t last forever, so head on into the game and pick up your rewards as soon as you can.

The hoops might present the Rocket League pros among us with a brand new challenge. In fact, Hoops is replacing the extra mode competitive tournament until the event is relegated to the history books and gaming nostalgia museums on October 18th.

If you’ve found yourself getting a little bored of the classic Rocket League experience, this is definitely an event you’ll want to participate in. Even if you anticipate that you won’t be terribly good at basketball, half the fun of the game is trying anyway.

In other news, Batman has returned to the Rocket League. The Dark Knight, his cars, and all sorts of other batman-themed merch are available in the Batman bundle. This is paid DLC, so you’ll have to fork out to drive the selection of legendary batmobiles that the bundle contains.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
